South Thames Development Route (A206 / A2016)
The widening of Crayford’s Thames Road is scheduled for completion early 2008. This will complete the strategic South Thames Development Route (STDR) to dual carriageway standard between Woolwich, the proposed Thames Gateway Bridge, the M25 and the regeneration areas in North Kent Thame-side. It will also significantly improve accessibility to the Belvedere employment area and other parts of North Bexley.
Crossrail
Crossrail is a new railway proposal for London and the South East. It will deliver a world – class, affordable railway, with a frequent and reliable train service across the capital by 2015.
The route goes from Maidenhead and Heathrow in the west right across the capital into Essex and Kent in the east. It travels underground through the city centre between Paddington and East London. Crossrail will make travelling in the area easier and quicker and reduce crowding on London’s transport network. It will operate with main line size trains, carrying more than 1500 passengers in each train.
Thames Gateway Bridge
The Thames Gateway Bridge (TGB) would be a local road and connecting Beckton to Thamesmead in East London, with two segregated and dedicated public transport lanes and separate lanes for pedestrians and cyclists. It is part of a package of river crossings to improve transport in East London and support sustainable growth within the Thames Gateway area.
The Bridge will:
- Improve accessibility to and within the Thames Gateway area,
- Support the regeneration of East London,
- Reduce journey times
- Improve access to a wider range of jobs, business opportunities, community facilities and services
Docklands Light Railway
There will be expanded capacity on the Docklands Light Railway, and new routes along the north fo the Thames, which Bexley residents could pick up at Lewisham, Greenwich and Woolwich. In the longer term, an extension of the DLR into Bexley is required and one that the borough are working towards.
